the mix was sounding really bad to me yesterday, really tinny, and it was kind of weirding me out. i kept turning it up and it just wasn't doing what it was supposed to. i thought maybe it had something to do with mixing it on the pod (it's a very guitar-centric track) and then rendering it through the multimix, but i've now done a very comprehensive a/b test and i cannot tell a difference between renders out of the two devices played back through my m-audio soundcard. (the 4th card attached to this device is a soundblaster live! drive with one of those nice front panel interfaces that i use mostly for midi but also sometimes for vocals. there's a fifth card, an integrated hd chip, but it's disabled in the bios to prevent conflicts.)

it's left me to conclude that my ears were probably ringing from the boris show. that's actually a little bit scary to me. i don't know what i'd do if my hearing were to go on me...

but, i mean, i can't understand people that want to watch something like boris with earplugs, either. i can't imagine those people are getting the full experience.
it seems to sound the way it's supposed to today. something to think about in terms of protecting your ears...

for those unfamiliar with boris, they are *extremely* loud...

in fact, they're so loud that i couldn't find a live youtube clip that wasn't distorted for my review yesterday. your cell phone simply can't handle boris....

rip robin williams

part of robin's talent was picking great scripts and then breathing life into them. this wasn't his most popular film, but it was his best.
